The first step in creating a home spa is to slow down. Let go of the day and its worries (they will still be there later) and dedicate a few hours to the experience. A special bath experience can begin with slowly preparing the bath. Set the mood with a favorite soothing CD, scented candle light and incense. Use essential oils. They smell good and are good for the skin. Chamomile and lavender are good for relaxation while rosemary and mint are excellent for rejuvenation. Add a few drops directly to the bath water. One ounce of sea salt mixed with ten drops of an essential oil creates an ideal body scrub. Use gentle circular motions to increase circulation and eliminate excess toxins and excess water. Finish the bath with a warm shower and dry with fluffy, fresh smelling towels.
The second step is treating the hair and skin. Rosemary essential oil makes an invigorating scalp massage. Add one ounce to sixteen ounces of shampoo. To moisturize the skin, add one part honey to two parts mashed avocado and use as a mask. Apply a face firming treatment such as a spoonful of each honey and glycerin whisked with an egg white and a few pinches of flour. After 15 minutes, rinse with cool water then place an ice cube in a small plastic bag and gently rub over face and eyes to tone the skin.
Next, step three, is a manicure and pedicure. Soak, shape, re-hydrate and polish. Remove rough patches on the balls of the feet or on heels by combining a cup of coarse salt with 1/2 cup of olive oil and a spoonful of Vitamin E oil, plus a few drops of a favorite essential oil for fragrance. Scrub rough spots and rinse.
Finally, rejuvenate from the inside as well as from the outside. Water is the earth’s most essential substance. Fill a fancy, crystal glass with spring water and a splash of lemon or lime. Drink slowly and deeply. Follow with steeped green tea. Finish with some deep abdominal breathing.
Treat yourself well. Make yourself happy. Relax and totally pamper yourself.
